Everything You Need To Plan An Unforgettable Lunar New Year Party

The Lunar New Year is a holiday that celebrates fresh starts and new beginnings. The holiday is widely celebrated across Asia and the Asian diaspora, and it involves family visits, ancestral worship, and fun activities, including dragon dances and firecrackers.

There’s no better way to ring in the Lunar New Year than to throw a party to gather loved ones. Need help figuring out the best audiovisual setup for your Lunar New Year celebrations? We got your back.

Sound System

A good sound system is essential for any party. Whether you're blasting traditional Chinese music (we love you Teresa Teng) or K-pop hits, you'll want to make sure your guests can hear the music loud and clear. If you’re planning a smaller gathering, our large Bluetooth party speaker is a great option. For larger parties, you may want to consider renting a professional sound system and consulting an audio technician, especially for an outdoor event.

What’s a party without dancing? If you want your guests to get their groove on, you’ll definitely want something with strong bass and that's exactly what our professional speakers bring to the table. Our QSC K12.2’s are a great option for any party, our EV EKX’s are similar with strong bass, and if you really want something to inspire dancing then add in a subwoofer to take the party to the next level.

Karaoke

What’s a party without some karaoke? If you're looking for a fun way to entertain your guests (and bring out their inner Như Quỳnh), a karaoke machine is a perfect addition. Switch between traditional songs (for the aunties, of course) and contemporary hits. We promise it's a surefire way to keep your guests on their feet and ensure they have a good time. If you want to move your party elsewhere for karaoke, LA has a ton of karaoke options for every kind of singer: from bars for the boastful to private rooms for the bashful.

Lighting

Lighting can really set the mood for your party. To create a cozy and intimate atmosphere, string lights or red paper lanterns are great options. For a more dramatic effect, consider using color-changing LED lights to create a festive and vibrant atmosphere.

LEDs can come in two forms: on light trees to provide a wash of light across a stage or backdrop and uplights which are used to cast light across walls and shrubbery to create an ambient effect. If you have any photo opportunities that you want to take to the next level we also provide halogen and soft box lights to make all of your photos really pop and reduce shadows on the faces of your guests. Projector and Screen

If you can’t bring real lion dancers or fireworks to your party, you can always show a video of them. Project everything from dance performances to home videos on a screen, and bring the spirit of Lunar New Year to life. Your guests will feel like they are right in the middle of the action.

Finally, Food

We know this one isn’t audiovisual but it’s essential nonetheless. No matter your ethnicity, perhaps one of the most important aspects of Lunar New Year is food. For a smaller, more intimate party, organize a potluck and have your guests bring dishes. If you want to make it a little more interesting, ask guests to bring food that starts with the same letter as their first name - good luck to all the Xaviers out there. For a larger party and budget, ask a local restaurant to cater.

Don't forget to check the available space you have for the party, and make sure you have enough power outlets to support all your equipment. And most importantly, have fun and make sure your guests have a great time. Happy Lunar New Year!
